Configuring SNMP Monitoring on the ProxySG

Solution

Overview

You want to configure monitoring through SNMP on the ProxySG.

Cause
Resolution

You can view a ProxySG using a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) management station. The ProxySG supports MIB-2 (RFC 1213), Proxy MIB, and the RFC 2594 MIB, which can be downloaded at https://bto.bluecoat.com/download for the version of SGOS that you are running.  On the right hand side of the page you should see "Product Files," with MIBS listed underneath.

Through the ProxySG Management Console or CLI, you can:

  • Enable SNMP
  • Configure SNMP community strings to restrict who can read SNMP data, write SNMP data, and receive SNMP traps
  • Configure SNMP traps

For step by step instructions on configuring SNMP, please refer to the Configuration and Management Guide (CMG) for your version of SGOS.  The CMGs are located at https://bto.bluecoat.com/documentation/pubs/ProxySG .

For SGOS 6.5.x please see Chapter 72: Section D: Monitoring Network Devices (SNMP) in the CMG.

For SGOS 6.2.x please see Chapter 71: Monitoring the ProxySG; Section D: Monitoring Network Devices in the CMG.

For SGOS 5.4.x please see Volume 9: Managing the Blue Coat ProxySG Appliance; Chapter 2: Monitoring the ProxySG; Section D: Configuring SNMP in the CMG.
