Storing and serving ProxySG upgrade images on a Director appliance

<< Back to Knowledge Search

Note: Blue Coat does not recommend doing this or support this in any way. This is a feature that will be available in Blue Coat Management Center and is currently logged as a feature enhancement.

Starting with SGME, Director includes an Apache server configured to listen on port 80. This server is intended for serving up Central policy files to proxies.

You can also use it for storing and serving up ProxySG upgrade images in the event that the proxies do not have direct access to the Internet.

To store ProxySG images on Director, the images must be downloaded to the "/var/www/html" directory on the Director appliance.

You can use the following commands. The last CURL command downloads an SGOS release for a ProxySG 510. Replace the URL and the filename after the "-O" option to suit your needs:

director > en
director # conf t
director (config) # shell
Releasing the configuration lock.
sh-2.05b# cd /var/www/html
sh-2.05b# curl -k -O sg510-6241.bcsi

Alternatively, if you already have the images downloaded to an internal FTP server, use the following commands to get the images onto the Director appliance:
sh-2.05b# ftp
Connected to (
Name ( admin
331 Password required for admin
230 Logged on
Remote system type is UNIX.
ftp> bin
200 Type set to I
ftp> get sg510-6241.bcsi

Once the file is downloaded, it will be available at the following URL:

At this point, you can use the previous URL on your proxies for fetching the upgrade image.
